EpiNotes
Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 26, 2026
EpiNotes is a personal seizure-tracking app. It is built to keep your health information private and under your control. This policy explains, plainly, what happens to your data.
What we collect
Nothing. EpiNotes has no developer-run backend, no user accounts, and no analytics, crash-reporting, or advertising software. We do not receive, see, or store any of your information. The app requests no data from you beyond what you choose to log inside it.
Where your data is stored
Everything you enter (seizure entries, timer sessions, VNS swipe records, optional video clips, and app settings) is stored in a database on your device. By default it stays there and nowhere else.
Optional iCloud Sync (off by default)
EpiNotes includes an optional feature that lets you keep the same seizure log in sync with the caregivers you invite, for example two parents caring for the same child. It is turned off by default. It does nothing unless you deliberately enable it in Settings and invite another person.
When you enable Sync:
- Your seizure entries and VNS swipe records are stored in your own Apple iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit service, so they can appear on your other devices and be shared with the caregivers you invite.
- When you invite a caregiver, that data is shared with the people you invite through Apple's CloudKit sharing. Everyone you share with needs EpiNotes installed to open it, and it is never accessible through iCloud.com or any other app. No one else can access it.
- This data is handled entirely by Apple's iCloud infrastructure under your Apple ID. The developer of EpiNotes cannot read it. We have no access to your iCloud private or shared data. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Video clips are never synced. Any video you record stays only on the device that recorded it.
You can turn Sync off at any time in Settings. Turning it off stops further syncing from that device.
Notifications
EpiNotes can show local reminders (for example, a timer check-in) that are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device. No push notifications are sent from any server, and no push token or device identifier is registered or transmitted.
Backups you create
You can export a backup file of your data from within the app. When you do, the file is saved or shared using your device's own share sheet, entirely under your control. EpiNotes never uploads your backups anywhere on your behalf.
Deleting your data
- Deleting an entry in the app removes it from your device.
- Deleting the EpiNotes app removes its local data from that device.
- If you used iCloud Sync, data stored in iCloud is governed by your Apple ID and your device's iCloud settings. To remove synced data, delete the entries and/or turn off Sync; you can also manage EpiNotes data in your device's iCloud settings.
- Note that your device's own backup system (such as an iCloud or computer device backup) may separately retain a copy of app data according to your device settings, independent of EpiNotes.
Children
EpiNotes is a tool for caregivers and individuals to track seizures. It is not directed at children, does not knowingly collect information from children, and (as described above) does not collect personal information from anyone.
Not a medical device
EpiNotes is a tracking and note-taking tool, not a medical device, and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always follow the guidance of your own healthcare team, and in an emergency contact your local emergency services.
